This morning presented Billie's Girl with two great endorsements! I expected neither, but between the two I have been on cloud nine all day, humming to myself and everything.
First, I was looking for a bit of information on the Brown line. I entered "Ruby Allison Brown" into the search box on Google Search, and was blown away when our site came up on the first page of links. Usually, I can find BG, but I have to dig for it--usually at least three pages in. That would have been enough to make my day, but the best was yet to come.
I am a long time fan of Lisa Louise Cooke's website and podcast for Genealogy Gems. It was her pod casts that encouraged me to go back to the genealogy search and to start this website. She has such a fun approach to genealogy, making it about the memories as well as facts.
I knew I wanted to add links to her site on the webpage as I know others would find them equally compelling. I sent her and email and she sent a wonderful email back with permission and encouragement. So, in July, I added the link for Genealogy Gems to the Research and Tidbits and Finds page and moved happily on.
With the knee surgery and drug ged up recovery, I had fallen way behind in listening to my pod casts, including Lisa's. Now that my brain isn't fuzzed up from the meds anymore I have been catching up on the ones I missed.
I was having a slow morning, snoozing late and listening to Genealogy Gems, Episode 154 (June 13, 2013. As the pod cast came to an end, I heard IT!
I sat straight up in bed when I realized Lisa was reading the email I had sent her. She graciously complimented Billie's Girl, read the family names I am researching (correctly pronounced "Doudna"--a thing that rarely happens outside of Wisconsin) and she added that she liked the banner photo. Best news, she has also added a link on her site to Billies Girl.
I feel as if I have just sold my first novel--with movie rights no less.
Thank you, Lisa! You made it a great day!!!!
